LIGHT THERAPY

Scientists have been studying the power of LED (light emitting diodes) light therapy for over 30 years. First used in the medical field to treat cancer and other ailments, further research found that LED light therapy could be used in cosmetic applications. NASA’s discovery that Red LED light had the ability to enhance cell growth, thus promoting wound healing left the scientific community wondering what other benefits LED light could have for human tissue; more specifically, for human skin.

Continued research has shown promising results. LED light therapy can be used for a variety of skin concerns including stimulation of cell rejuvenation and collagen production. Types of LED light therapy are determined by different wavelengths: infrared, red, blue, green and amber. The color treatment you choose will depend on the skin concerns you want to target and your desired results. Continue reading for a description of each treatment.

RED LIGHT THERAPY

Red light therapy energizes skin cells, which helps to promote collagen and elastin production. By targeting the skin’s surface and dispersing red light over a greater surface area, this therapy helps reduce inflammation within the tissues, quickening the healing process. Red light therapy users have reported a noticeable reduction in the appearance of pores and fine lines and wrinkles.

BLUE LIGHT THERAPY

Effective for depression, acne, and sun damage, blue light therapy is used to stimulate the production of oxygen radicals to kill bacteria (preventing and reducing acne occurrence) and minimize enlarged oil glands. Subjects treated with this form of therapy report improved skin texture, diminished appearance of sun damage, and reduced skin redness and puffiness. Skin is generally brighter and more radiant.
